Aging in America begins by looking at the origins of an accelerated composition course that focuses on oral history and, specifically, ageism. The film highlights several Kirkwood students and Iowa City senior citizens throughout the project, as the students interview, transcribe, write, and research while sharing their life experiences and stories. Following the instructor, her students, and the senior participants through the semester, the film shows them in and outside of the classroom as they write and learn about the power of stories, social injustice, cultural differences, ageism, and end of life issues.
