About this event

Build conservation practices at home by adding native plants to your landscape. This plant sale will feature Johnson County’s
Troutleaf Native Plants, which will be selling native plant plugs.

After the native plant sale (9-9:45 AM), registrants are invited to attend the presentation “Summer Prairie Blooms & Home Gardening with Prairie Plants” at 10 AM by Eric Miller. You’ll learn more about the phenology of Iowa's prairies and come away with a better sense of prairie plant bloom time and how to integrate prairie plans in your home landscaping. This session will cover many common prairie plants sharing tips and tricks for home use.

At 11:15, following Eric’s presentation, attendees may participate in an optional half-mile guided prairie hike along the Conservation Education Center loop, concluding around 12:30 PM.

Eric Miller is a master naturalist, retired sociology professor, and cooperative natural food store worker. Eric is also part of the leadership team of the Cedar Rapids Iowa City Wild Ones Chapter.

This event is part of the Native Plant Series hosted by Johnson County Conservation in the spring and fall of 2026. The next sale will be held Sept. 13. The plant sales run concurrent with a speaker series for which registration is required and can be found on the Johnson County Conservation website. Upcoming speaker series descriptions will be posted soon.

The Native Plant Series is generously supported by volunteers from the Johnson County Master Gardeners of Iowa.
