At this special event, jointly sponsored by TRAIL of Johnson County and the Senior Center, Carl H. Klaus will read from his current work in progress, In My Eighties: Tales of Aging. The book is a chronicle of essay-like installments written every six months during the past four years.
Carl is founder of the University of Iowa's esteemed Nonfiction Writing Program and UI Professor Emeritus of English. He is a prolific essayist, diarist, and specialist in nonfiction writing, and was founding co-editor (with Patricia Hampl) of Sightline Books: The Iowa Series in Literary Nonfiction.
Within the Iowa City community, Carl is best known for books such asMy Vegetable Love, Weathering Winter, Taking Retirement, and Letters to Kate — personal works in the form of diaries and letters that reflect on his life and marriage, on gardening and food, on work and retirement, and on his abiding concern with time, change, and mortality.
A question-and-answer period will follow the reading. We hope you will join us for what promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking presentation.
This is a free public event, but registration is highly encouraged. Call the TRAIL Office for more information to register for the event.
