The League of Women voters of Johnson County, LWV of Iowa, and the Bertelsmann Foundation invite you to join them for a special showing of the documentary film, I, Too, as part of FilmScene’s Community Collaborations series. The film features Dr. Carol Anderson, New York Times bestselling author and Chair of African American Studies at Emory University.
I, Too explores the connection between America’s history (through the lens of little-known episodes from the past), and the current challenges to American democracy. It examines the question, “Who could believe this could happen here?” regarding the January 6, 2021 insurrection.
The screening will be followed by a discussion exploring the impact of history and accountability in strengthening democracy. The moderator for the post-film discussion will be Laura Gray, Iowa City Community School District Diversity Director. Panel members include Bea Hicks, LWVJC Board member, and Ashley Howard, UI professor of African American Studies. Additional speaker information can be found on the LWVJC website.
