Heritage Agency on Aging’s “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” is a class designed to provide family caregivers with the skills they need to take care of themselves while also caring for loved ones.

The six evidence-based class sessions, offered via Zoom, are held once per week and are led by trained, certified class leaders.

Attendees will learn to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Better communicate your feelings
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Increase ability to make tough decisions
  • Balance your life
  • Locate helpful resources

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Taking care of you
  • Identifying and reducing personal stress
  • Communicating feelings, needs, and concerns
  • Learning from emotions
  • Communicating in challenging situations
  • Mastering caregiving decisions

Like the seasons of the year, caregiving has its great days and not-as-great days. This spring’s course theme, “Seasons of Caregiving,” highlights how the Powerful Tools course will equip you with the skills to make the most of every season.

Registration is required by April 25. Register online or by contacting Bryan Bruner at 319-249-8749 or Bryan.Bruner@kirkwood.edu. Cost is a suggested $10 donation to Heritage’s Caregiver Program.
