Since TRAIL is unable to host our usual in-person member events at the present time, we hope these recommendations will help you select from among a wealth of online opportunities to learn, grow, and combat social isolation. Enjoy!

Eastern Iowa audiences have been thrilled by Red Cedar Chamber Music performances for more than 20 years. Now, with performance halls shuttered, RCCM is moving online for a series of special live-stream concerts. Here’s how they describe their plans:

Stuck at home with the kids? So are we! Red Cedar Chamber Music’s directors and core ensemble, violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian, have found a unique solution to the challenges our organization faces at this time. With 27 events postponed indefinitely, our audience thirsting for entertainment, and two children to occupy, we decided to make the most out of our self-isolation.

Putting our two sons, Oliver (17) and Adrian (15) to work, we have planned a program of family chamber music to be live-streamed to the world, but most importantly, our Eastern Iowa audiences.

We have two online programs planned, and the first, “Swiss Family Bostian,” will be produced April 15-18. The program will include a work by Red Cedar’s composer-in-residence, Michael Kimber, titled “Quartettino.” It was written for oboe, violin, viola and cello, but it works well for our slightly altered string quartet of two violins and two cellos. The program also includes a fantastic cello duet by F.A. Kummer that includes a “Swiss Theme and Variations” as well as the well-known Serenade for violin, viola and cello by Ernst Dohnanyi.

The live-streamed concerts will take place on four consecutive days:
-  Wednesday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
-  Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
-  Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
-  Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m

Watch for the links on our website, www.redcedar.org, our YouTube Channel, RedCedarChamberMusic, or on our Facebook page, @RedCedarChamberMusic. We hope to improve the lives of new audiences, and those that we have known from senior living communities, libraries, community centers, and rural communities, all over Eastern Iowa.
