Cinema Salon is a monthly program sponsored by the Iowa City Senior Center that invites Center members and other movie lovers to view a discounted screening of a new-release film at FilmScene, followed by a 30-minute discussion led by Donna Janosik, whose background includes film production, psychology, and teaching.
Today’s film is Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty!, directed by Josef Kubota Wladyka. Main characters Haru and Luis love competing in Tokyo's ballroom dance scene, but after tragedy strikes, Haru withdraws into isolation. When friends coax her back to the studio, she develops an infatuation with the new instructor. “A lively exorcism of grief, Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty! gives its characters a lovely sense of grace while Rinko Kikuchi's winsome performance gives this film its beating heart.” – Rotten Tomatoes reviews
