The Iowa City Senior Center invites you to join Iowa City Fire Chief Scott Lyon for a new monthly conversation focused on safety, preparedness, and protecting our community.

With more than 25 years of fire service experience, Chief Lyon will share practical safety tips and interview special guests—including EMS professionals and fire department staff—on topics that matter most to community members.

Today's presentation, "Seconds County: The Lifesaving Truth about Smoke Detectors," asks the crucial question: Is your home truly protected against fire? Most people don't know that smoke alarms expire or that sensor types matter. Fire Chief Lyons will explain the vital rules of smoke detector placement, testing, and replacement. Ensure your family has the crucial early warning they need to escape safely.

Participants will also learn about helpful resources such as the Community Connect program and have opportunities to suggest future safety topics.
