The University of Iowa Center for Advancement is hosting an exclusive screening of 9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero, a powerful documentary produced by Carolyn Lukensmeyer 67BA 67SE, who will be honored this year as a recipient of the University of Iowa’s Eight Over 80 Award.
Doors open at 6 PM; screening begins at 6:30 with a Q&A with Carolyn to follow. Space is limited, and advanced registration is encouraged.
In 1995, Lukensmeyer founded AmericaSpeaks, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening democracy by giving everyday citizens a meaningful voice in public decision making. Among its most notable efforts was the 21st Century Town Meeting that brought 5,000 New Yorkers together to deliberate on plans for rebuilding Ground Zero after September 11.
9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero tells the story of that historic gathering and examines its lasting impact on what exists today at one of the most significant sites in American history.
This special evening offers a rare opportunity to engage with an influential leader whose work has shaped civic participation and public dialogue nationwide.
