About this event

The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and it was introduced in the 1990s by the U.S. National Science Foundation. Women are not only underrepresented in STEM fields, but also as characters in fiction.

Fiction with a female protagonist in STEM fields can be found across all genres, from romance or science fiction to mysteries or any other subgenre. Goodreads has multiple lists about Women in STEM, as does shereads.

Pick some of your favorites and join the discussion, or just join in to hear what others have liked.

Not a traditional book group, Let's Talk Books – hosted by Iowa City Public Library staff – is a series of casual online conversations about books. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month on Zoom to talk about their favorite books in a specific genre or on a theme that changes each time. Each participant brings a few titles to share, and by the end of the discussion, all have a few new titles on their to-be-read lists.

Register in advance and you'll receive a confirmation email with the Zoom login details. You'll also get a reminder email a few days before the event. Everyone is welcome!
