In recognition of American Heart Month this February, the Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC) is participating in the “Libraries with Heart” program, a national initiative of the American Heart Association that increases access to blood pressure monitoring in public spaces.
Through partnerships with Johnson County Public Health and the University of Iowa, the ICSC is expanding opportunities for community members to learn about and monitor their heart health in a trusted, accessible setting.
As part of American Heart Month, the ICSC will host two free blood pressure screening events. No appointment is required.
Blood Pressure Screening Events
- 9 AM to noon, Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, in the ICSC lobby.
- 9 AM to noon Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, in the ICSC lobby. A special event featuring a meet-and-greet with Miss Iowa, Lydia Fisher.
In addition to these events, the ICSC offers on-site access to blood pressure monitors year-round as part of the “Libraries with Heart” program.
ICSC staff do not provide medical advice, and blood pressure monitoring does not replace care from a healthcare provider. Individuals with consistently high readings are encouraged to follow up with a medical professional.
