About this event

Community members are invited to join the Iowa City Office of Human Rights for a film screening and discussion on older adults and homelessness.
Older adults (55+) are the fastest-growing population entering homelessness across the country, and their numbers are on pace to triple by 2030. In this program, we will screen the short film “No Place to Grow Old,” which features both housing professionals and older adults who are unhoused or at risk of becoming so. The film will be followed by an expert panel discussion on the topic featuring:
- Rachel Carter, Administrator of Iowa City’s Housing Authority
- Elizabeth Norris, Managing Attorney for Legal Aid’s Legal Hotline for Older Iowans
- Rachel Carr, Chair of the Johnson County Local Homeless Coordinating Board and Director of Data Analytics & Compliance for Shelter House
The screening and discussion will take place in the Water Treatment Plant meeting room, 80 Stephen Atkins Drive. Parking is limited, and participants are encouraged to carpool, if possible.
Registration is required and is limited to 40 seats. Lunch will be provided.
This event is sponsored by the Office of Human Rights, Iowa City Housing Authority, Iowa City Senior Center, and Iowa Legal Aid.
