African Festival of Arts and Culture

About this event

For decades, African immigrants have made Iowa their home. Currently, more than 30,000 of Iowa’s 3.2 million residents were born in Africa.

The African Festival of Arts and Culture celebrates the vibrant presence of Africans in Iowa and highlights the rich cultural traditions they have brought with them. Africa is a hugely diverse continent with 54 countries, hundreds of languages, and thousands of ethnic groups. Africa Fest performances and booths will showcase some of the cuisines, musical traditions, fashions, and art of the African groups who call Iowa home.

The African Festival strives to create connections between African immigrant groups and Iowa neighbors, fostering a more inclusive and culturally-enriched state.

Africa Fest is free and all are welcome!

Festival highlights include:

  • Parade of Nations Fashion Show
  • 16-piece Afroband243 performance
  • BMX Unicycle Trick Rider
  • Junior Talent
  • Choirs and Dance Troupe
  • African food and crafts vendors
