The Iowa City New Horizons Band and the Senior Center's Voices of Experience invite the community to an extraordinary free concert at 2 PM on May 10, 2025, at Voxman Concert Hall, sponsored by Friends of the Iowa City Senior Center.
This special performance marks the 30th Anniversary of the Iowa City New Horizons Band, featuring Cory Schmitt, a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Iowa, conducting six stirring pieces, including the remarkable “An American Portrait” by Lewis Buckley. The program will showcase Matt Dulas, a euphonium soloist with a Master of Arts in Euphonium Performance.
For the first time in history, the Iowa City New Horizons Band and Voices of Experience will collaborate on the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” creating a harmonious and inspirational moment that is not to be missed.
Voices of Experience, a mixed-voice choral ensemble from the Iowa City Senior Center, offers a warm, welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities to sing, learn, and create. Under the direction of Jon Ranard, the choir performs a vast repertoire of styles—from Broadway hits to sacred and secular classics.
This premier performance will also feature selections conducted by Assistant Director Emma Dickinson, including "Mt. Everest" by Rossano Galante and "Golden Jubilee" by John Phillip Sousa, two dynamic pieces that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
The celebration blends music, talent, and community spirit, ensuring an engaging experience for all. Admission is free, and the event is open to all ages.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to witness live music that celebrates creativity, talent, and the joy of artistic expression.
