Prairie Lights invites you to hear authors Dianne Prichard and Charles P. Kniker read from and talk about their timely, informative, and clearly laid-out new book, Raising America: Building a More Perfect Union.
Inspired by the fragile state of our American democracy and the inability to have civil conversations with friends and family regarding civil issues, Prichard and Kniker have written a book to addresses both concerns.
Raising America: Building a More Perfect Union is a “hands-on” instruction book that gives ideas that the ordinary person can do to help maintain American democracy. The book equips the reader with facts, ideas, inspiration, and action steps to protect, foster, and promote democracy and freedom. Each chapter offers specific, proven, and practical “to do” activities for individuals or for groups, including how to hold meaningful conversations between people with different political perspectives and positions.
Charles R. Kniker is professor emeritus of education at Iowa State University and former staff member of the State of Iowa Board of Regents. He is an ordained United Church of Christ minister and former president of Eden Seminary and the author of numerous previous books including Spirituality that Makes a Difference. He lives in Ames, Iowa.
Dianne Prichard is a retired high school teacher and advocate of caring for people and caring for the earth. She was a public school teacher for 33 years. She is currently a Lutheran pastor and lives in Dewitt, Iowa.
